The Wolf Creek Avalanche School is unique. We are a small avalanche school focused on individualized attention and intimate class-size. We have decades of professional avalanche experience. We know how confusing it can be to make snow safety decisions, at all levels of avy savvy. Meeting you where you are in your learning, we ensure it is okay to 'not know'. Burial statistics clearly show that rescuers that practice companion rescue skills regularly are twice as successful at digging a buried victim out alive. With this in mind, we have installed a state of the art BCA Beacon Training Park (BTP) on Wolf Creek Summit.

The BTP is located at the Lobo parking lot, on the north side of Hwy. 160 a few hundred yards east of the summit of Wolf Creek Pass. Once you park your car and get geared up, head east over the snow on the summer road and the park is immediately on your right. It is freely available for public use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There are currently 4 transmitting targets buried on the south side of the summer road in the area of the yellow control box. Just open the control box, flip on whatever switches you like, and start searching! Practice single burials until you can quickly and easily locate the target with a probe, then move on to multiple burials.

Please DO NOT DIG up the targets! Use beacon and probe ONLY! Shoveling may cut a power cable or distroy a target.
